On the Rainy River by Tim O'Brien

For this blog, I have decided to pick a selection of music from www.clasiscalconnect.com to describe the mood and tone of this story.

I have chose the musical selection of Johann Sebastian Bach called Sarabande, from Suite no. 5 in G Major, BWV 816. The link to the music is:

This music represents the tone of the story because it starts off slow and sad but then gets faster paced when the action in the story starts rising to the conflict. The story is sad from the very beginning when Tim finds out when he is to be sent to war but then it gets more intense when he starts to protest against going. In the end, Tim ends up going to war but only because he was embarrassed not to. The music gets intense and it symbolizes the rising action and leading up to the conflict, not knowing whether Tim will be going to war or he will be escaping to Canada.

I think it fits the tone very well because it was very sad and suspenseful when Tim recieved the draft notice and had said he wasn't going to enter the war. We didn't know what he was going to decide so we were left guessing for a while if he was going to go to war or not. The music was very suspenseful.
